3 days, 3 cities, 3 countries.
John have you lost your mind? To be honest I wasn’t sure if it would feel rushed but It came together perfectly.
I landed into Bratislava, Slovakia at 0915 from Mallorca with a bargain flight from ryanair costing just 9€. The airport was around a 10 minute drive from the city centre. I used an app called bolt (an Uber lookalike) and with 60% off my first few rides it cost me just 1.80€ to reach the apollo hotel. I dumped my bag and walked towards my first port of call the blue church.
Followed by the man at work sculpture, a walk up to the castle and to the cities main squares including the parliament building. Bratislava is small, you can complete it in a day with no challenges. I also took a taxi around 20 minutes to Devin castle, a medieval castle next to the Danube.
There are lots of options for Slovakian food and the sheep cheese dumplings were pretty good.
The next day I caught my 0920 coach to the next city, Brno, Czech Republic. Travelling basically down one straight road the journey took just 90 minutes and cost less than 10€ with flixbus.
Brno is the Czech republic’s second biggest city but to be honest it’s centre is pretty quick to navigate around. I saw all the main sights in just a few hours. I had planned to stay the night in the 10z hotel, which is located in a nuclear bunker under the castle.
But after deciding that my time would be better spent in my final city for the trip I re booked my coach and left 3 hours later.
Arriving in Vienna, Austria around 1900 I checked into the wombat hostel and went straight out for some dinner. Sitting down in the night market I scoffed down a Vienna schnitzel. It was so good!
The next morning I woke up and smashed out 22km walking around Vienna checking off neatly all of the big city sights.
I made sure for lunch I was back in the market and had a bratwurst, which what I thought was grated cheese turned out to be horseradish talk about bite off more than you can chew.
In the morning I also visited the famous Sacher hotel to try the torte, “the most famous cake in the world”. At 7.90€ a slice it was good, was it amazing though? Hmm I’ve had better.
Vienna made for a really good city trip and it’s a great option for a long weekend away. If I’m honest it’s not a place I feel like I need to return to. Flying back to Mallorca I realised the rest of my year is a blank canvas. I’m not sure where is next but I’m sure I’ll figure it out soon.
